A: No, but we believe we are better than organic. The organic label was created by the USDA and they charge you to use it. This organic label ONLY controls what your livestock are fed and has absolutely nothing to do with animal welfare. We already limit our cattle and sheep to a forage only diet, and we only feed our pigs locally raised and purchased feed along with what they graze. Plus, unlike the vast majority of "organic" livestock, they get to live out their lives in a clean, outdoor environment where they are always humanely treated on our family farm.
Q: How is the meat packaged?
A: The meat is wrapped in cellophane and then covered in white butcher paper. We do not recommend shrink wrapping. It is easy to get pin-sized wholes when it is shuffled around your freezer that will, in turn, cause freezer burn.
Q: How much space does it take up?
A: You need approximately 1 cubic foot of storage space for each 30-40 pounds of meat.
A whole cow takes up about 12-14 cubic feet
A whole pig takes up about 4-5 cubic feet
A whole lamb takes up about 1-2 cubic feet
Q: How long will it last?
A: It is really hard to say, and depends on how much you and your family eat. The average beef carcass produces over 500 meals. Half a cow lasts about 6-8 months for our family of two adults and 2 kids. Pork and lamb are much more variable for us.
Q. Do i have to cook the meat differently?
A: YES! Grass-fed beef is significantly lower in fat than what you are going to buy at the grocery store. Cook it "low and slow". Check out our Blog for recipes and cooking tips!
